Department of Spinal Surgery II @ Ospedale Galeazzi - Sant'Ambrogio
The 2nd Division of the Spinal Surgery Unit at the Istituto Ortopedico Galeazzi Research Hospital is a National Reference Centre of the Italian Society for Spinal Surgery. It is a training centre for surgeons specialised in Orthopaedics and Neurosurgery. It is also a centre for the Masters programme in Spinal Surgery of the Italian Society of Spine Surgery as well as a home to the international courses of AOSpine International.
The Department is a permanent training site for surgeons from all over Europe and Overseas countries for the refinement of minimally invasive fusion techniques (ALIF technique with “perinavel”, Lateral and Oblique approach).
The director of the Department is Dr. Roberto Bassani. He is a member of several faculty board as well an international lecturer, involved in many training courses for spinal surgeons. He is an active member of the Italian Society of Spine Surgery (GIS), and a member of the board of AOSpine and other high-level scientific societies such as the American Scoliosis Research Society (SRS) and EUROSPINE.
The main clinical and surgical areas are: congenital and degenerative pathologies of the spine and huge deformity. The main research field is the study and development of anterior approaches to the spine using minimally invasive techniques based on the respect of the normal anatomy.
