Becoming GSD patient

Patients come to Gruppo San Donato from around the world seeking specialized medical care not readily available in their home country.
If you live outside Italy, our International Patients Office is your link to the excellent healthcare services offered by GSD.

Through our International Patients Program, patients and their family members are assisted throughout every step of planning their visit, including scheduling appointments and procedures, arranging for accommodations and facilitating post-treatment follow-up.

Being the leading Italian hospital group, our physicians are recognized leaders in their professional societies, heading national and international organizations and committees dedicated to improving healthcare as well as advancing knowledge about new clinical protocols. Gruppo San Donato is known as a pioneer in multiple research fields, outstanding clinical programs and its academic excellences.

Coming to GSD

At Gruppo San Donato, we give every patient’s request the utmost attention. Please proceed with Requesting an appointment or enquire further information in regards to the following points:

  • Acquiring information on the estimated costs of treatment and acceptable forms of payment
  • Scheduling diagnostic or treatment program
  • Meeting visa and Covid-19 requirements

Need a second opinion?

GSD offers second opinion on a diagnosis as well as recommendations on surgery or a complex treatment plan. We provide laboratory analysis and review of samples, medical records as well as diagnostic imaging records.

If you would like to receive a second opinion you can submit your request by filling in online form.

GSD will then provide you with a list of required medical records and samples you will need to send as well as the address and billing information of the appropriate GSD facility, where a team of doctors and analysts specialized in your pathology will be reviewing your files.

You will then be contacted when the results are ready. We will send back all documentations, as well as the physician’s consultation and second opinion script.

Patient services

GSD is on your side before your arrival and will continue to take care of your needs after you leave. Find out about all the services designed for your peace of mind.

We understand that going through medical treatment in a foreign scenery can be an intimidating experience. For this reason, Gruppo San Donato provides personalized services for its patients coming from abroad. In the process of becoming a patient at one of our facilities, you will be paired with an international medical coordinator who speaks “your language”.

He or she is your advocate within GSD and will help you access all of exceptional services you would expect from a world-class healthcare system. Our coordinator will be by your side to answer all your questions, provide language interpretation and accompany you to your appointments.

List of languages spoken: Arabic, Chinese, English, French, German, Italian, Polish, Romanian, Russian, Spanish, and Ukrainian.

Your medical files and requirements will be reviewed and assessed before your arrival to Italy. Our medical coordination process starts with the following:

  • Matching your medical needs with an appropriate GSD facility

  • Arranging appointments for outpatients and inpatient admissions

  • Scheduling diagnostic imaging examinations

  • Preparing a report that includes a treatment plan, an estimated length of stay and an approximate quotation.

At GSD facilities, your health and comfort during your hospital stay are our top priorities. Our physicians and staff are here to make sure you receive the best care, and your personal needs are met.

Besides providing medical care, we feel it is essential to take care of each aspect which may contribute to making your stay in our hospitals a comforting experience. You will be able to choose among various room categories ranging from an intimate single room to large suites, characterised by minimalist-style décor and fully equipped with all necessary amenities to ensure you comfort and security.

Upon discharge, the International Patients Office will put together a complete package of information, which will detail your follow-up care instructions, medications and a translation of the procedures carried out while you were a patient at our facilities.

For some patients, in particular the ones undergoing a complex medical treatment, a series of follow-up appointments will be programmed at the same GSD facility where the treatment took place.
