Biography
Dr. Riccardo Caccialanza is a consultant at the IRCCS San Raffaele Hospital, where he serves as the Coordinating Director of the Clinical Nutrition Area.
He is also the Director of the Dietetics and Clinical Nutrition Unit at the IRCCS Policlinico San Matteo Foundation, a Contract Professor at the University of Pavia (Bachelor’s Degree in Dietetics; Specialization School in Oncology; Specialization School in Digestive System Diseases; PhD in Experimental Medicine; Second-Level Master’s in “Nutrition in Oncology”), Secretary of the “Survivorship Care and Nutritional Support” Working Group of Alleanza Contro il Cancro (ACC), and a member of the joint Italian Inter-Society Working Group (AIOM, SINPE, FAVO, SICO, ASAND, FNOPI) on “Nutritional Support in Oncology.”
He is also a member of the Technical Table on Nutritional Safety (TARSIN) of the Lombardy Region, Chair of the Nutrition Pillar of the “New Therapeutic Frontiers in Breast Cancer” Intergroup Consultation of the XII Commission for Social Affairs in the Chamber of Deputies, Nutrition Consultant for the “Pancreas Unit” Working Group of the Lombardy Region, member of the Coordinating Body of the Lombardy Clinical Nutrition Network, member of the Steering Committee for the Prevention and Treatment of Eating Disorders (DCA) of the Lombardy Region, member of the Technical Table for Home Artificial Nutrition (NAD) of the Lombardy Region, member of the Ethics Committee of the Humanitas Clinical Institute Mirasole S.p.A., Head of the Oncological Area of the Italian Society of Artificial Nutrition and Metabolism (SINPE), member of the Scientific Committee of A.N.N.A. – National Association of Artificial Nutrition Onlus, member of the Scientific Committee of Vivere senza Stomaco (si può) – ODV, and a member of the Technical Scientific Committee of the ERAS Forum Study Center.
Dr. Caccialanza is a Specialist in Clinical Nutrition, having graduated and specialized at the University of Pavia, with study and collaboration experiences at the Great Ormond Street Hospital in London.
He earned the National Scientific Qualification as a Full Professor in the competitive sector 06/D2 (Endocrinology, Nephrology, and Food and Wellness Sciences) in 2020, and as an Associate Professor in the same sector in 2017.
He also obtained the Certificate of Managerial Training for Complex Structure Managers (DCS 1706) in 2019.
Currently, he focuses on nutritional support for all acute and chronic diseases, with a particular emphasis on oncological, gastroenterological, metabolic, and neurological diseases, post-surgical outcomes, and artificial nutrition.
He is the author of over 160 publications in international journals and coordinates multiple clinical studies related to nutritional evaluation and support in oncology, with a specific focus on body composition and immunonutrition. His research activities also cover hospital malnutrition and some rare diseases (short bowel syndrome, systemic sclerosis, amyloidosis).
