Pietro Spagnolo
Biography
Dr. Pietro Spagnolo directs the cardiovascular CT service of the IRCCS Policlinico San Donato and Consultant Radiologist of the Diagnostic Imaging Service at the Casa di Cura La Madonnina.
After graduating from the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery, obtained in 2001 at the University of Genoa, in 2005 he received a specialization in X-ray diagnostics at the same university.
Dr. Spagnolo is one of the first radiologists in Italy who started doing coronary CT angiography since 2004 with the first specialized multi-detector CT equipment.
In 2007, he founded the Center for the Prevention of Cardiovascular Diseases at the IRCCS Ospedale San Raffaele in Milan, became responsible, specializing in a comprehensive non-invasive examination of cardiovascular diseases using CT-SPECT and CT-PET.
Since 2019, he has been managing the CT service of the cardiovascular system of the X-ray diagnostic Department of the IRCCS Policlinico San Donato, where more than 3,000 CT studies of the cardiovascular system are conducted annually.
His main areas of clinical and research activities mainly concern:
- coronary and cardiac CT angiography
- CT angiography of the whole body and lower and upper extremities
- MRI of the heart and MRI angiography of vessels
Dr. Spagnolo is the author/co-author of more than 50 scientific articles published in international journals with Hirsch Index 14 and a reviewer of international journals on cardiovascular diseases. He also participated in multicenter studies on percutaneous aortic valve replacement and radiation dose optimization in CT.
