Biography

Professor Cesare Maffei is the Head of the Department of Clinical Psychology and Psychotherapy at the IRCCS Ospedale San Raffaele in Milan and an ordinary Professor of Clinical Psychology at the Vita Salute San Raffaele University.

After receiving his doctorate in Medicine and Surgery, he specializes in psychiatry at the University of Milan. He is the co-founder and president of the Italian Society for Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (SIDBT), affiliated with the Linehan Institute of Behavioral Technologies in Seattle (USA) and the Italian Association for the Study of Personality Disorders (AISDP).

Clinical activity is accompanied by intensive research activities. His original works have appeared in Psychoanalytic Psychology, Personality and Mental Health, Journal of Personality Disorders, Borderline Personality Disorder and Emotion Dysregulation, Comprehensive Psychiatry, Giornale Italiano di Psicologia, Assessment.

Professor Maffei is a member of the International Society for the Study of Personality Disorders (ISSPD), of which he was president from 2003 to 2007, the American Psychiatric Association (APA), the Italian Association of Psychologists (AIP), the Italian Medical Psychotherapy (SIPM) and the Personality Disorders Section of the World Psychiatric Association (WPA). In addition, he is a member of the DBT International Strategic Planning Group (IDSPG).
