Biography

Dr. Carmelo Messina is a radiologist in the Department of Diagnostic Imaging and Interventional Procedures at the IRCCS Ospedale Galeazzi - Sant'Ambrogio and he also cooperates with the Casa di Cura La Madonnina Osteoporosis Diagnostic and Therapy Center, where he is engaged in the preparation of reports on bone densitometry (MOC) studies.

In 2011 he graduated from the University of Milan with a degree in Medicine and Surgery, and in 2012 he qualified for the medical profession - the Provincial Association of Surgeons and Dentists of Milan.

In 2017, he received a specialization in radio diagnostics from the University of Milan and a European Diploma in Radiology, a certificate of excellence provided by the European Society of Radiology.

During his specialization, his training took place in various hospitals in Milan (the IRCCS Policlinico San Donato, the Clinical Research Institute Ca 'Granda Foundation Ospedale Maggiore Policlinico and the IRCCS Ospedale Galeazzi - Sant'Ambrogio).

Dr. Carmelo Messina spent 5 months in the radiology department of the University Hospital of Innsbruck (Austria), where he deepened his knowledge in the field of ultrasound of the musculoskeletal system.

In addition to working as a radiologist at the IRCCS Istituto Ortopedico Galeazzi, he has been a researcher at the University of Milan since 2018. Research activity is mainly focused on the visualization of the musculoskeletal system, with a special focus on osteometabolic diseases and osteoporosis. He has published more than 80 papers in indexed journals on PubMed. He is a speaker at numerous national and international courses and conferences.

In addition, he carries out scientific activities as an active member of the Subcommittee on Osteoporosis and Ultrasound of the European Society of Musculoskeletal Radiology. He is also a national delegate of the "Young" section of the Italian Society of Medical Radiology.
