Valerio Mecarocci

Dr. Valerio Mecarocci is cardiologist of the Clinical Arrhythmology and Electrophysiology Unit of IRCCS Policlinico San Donato.

In 2010, he graduates in Medicine and Surgery with honors from the University of Perugia, and in 2016, he obtains specialization in Cardiovascular Diseases at the University of Florence.

During his training, Dr. Mecarocci develops specialist skills in cardiology, both clinical and instrumental, with particular interest to arrhythmias and diagnostic imaging using nuclear magnetic resonance, and two-dimensional and three-dimensional transthoracic echocardiography.

Since 2017, he has been working at the Clinical Arithmology and Electrophysiology Unit directed by Prof. Carlo Pappone, where he performs clinical activities including non-invasive and invasive procedures.

Specifically, he performs cardiological and arrhythmological examinations, electrocardiographic, echocardiographic examinations, control and programming of implantable devices for cardiac monitoring, Holter ECG monitoring, stress tests, and tilt tests.

Among invasive procedures, he performs electrophysiologic studies, pharmacologic provocative tests (ajmaline test, adrenaline test, adenosine test), percutaneous ablations of atrial fibrillation, external electrical cardioversions, and implantation of pacemakers, defibrillators, cardiac resynchronization devices (CRTP/D), and internal loop recorders.

In the field of research, he devotes himself, in particular, to the study of arrhythmic pathologies and evaluation of the same by means of non-invasive imaging techniques. His contributions appear in numerous international specialized journals.

He is a member of the National Association of Hospital Cardiologists (ANMCO), the Italian Society of Cardiology (SIC), the European Heart Rhythm Association (EHRA) and the European Association of Cardiovascular Imaging (EACVI).
