Samuele Burastero

Biography

Dr. Samuele Burastero is an immunologist in the Department of Immunology, Rheumatology, Allergology and Rare Diseases of the IRCCS Ospedale San Raffaele under the supervision of Professor Lorenzo Dagna.

After graduating with honors from the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery of the University of Genoa in 1982, he specialized in respiratory pathophysiology in 1985 and allergology in 1993 at the same university.

Clinically, Dr. Burastero carries out his activities as an allergist specialist in the outpatient clinics of the department.

In terms of research activities, Dr. Burastero is responsible for the Cellular and Molecular Allergology Research Group.

In this regard, the doctor has been studying Th2 inflammation in allergic asthma and the mechanisms of allergen-specific immunotherapy (ASIT) for a long time. Currently, his research activity is focused on the study of biological parameters for monitoring ASIT using a proteomics-based approach; he is also involved in projects aimed at identifying individuals who respond to biological drugs used to treat severe asthma.

Dr. Burastero also started in 2003 a joint project with the chemical industry, active to this day, in the immunotoxicity sector, in which in vitro tests are performed to predict the allergenic potential of chemicals.

He is the author and co-author of more than 100 publications in national and international scientific journals, as well as chapters in books. His Hirsch Index is 35. He constantly participates as a speaker at national and international industry congresses.
