Biography

Dr. Renata Clotilde Castellano is the coordinator of the Social Welfare Zone in the Vascular Surgery Department of the IRCCS Ospedale San Raffaele under the supervision of Professor Roberto Chiesa.

In 1989 she graduated from the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery of the University of Milan, where in 2002 she received a specialization in vascular surgery. She is also a specialist in general surgery with a specialization in emergency care (specialization of the University of Siena, 1995).

Clinical activities in combination with research activities are focused on all vascular surgery, with a special interest in surgery in the aortic, abdominal and thoracic regions, in diseases affecting the aortic arch, descending thoracic aorta, thoracic and abdominal aorta, atherosclerotic and associated with congenital and acquired abnormalities. She is also engaged in the treatment of lesions of the extracranial carotid arteries, surgical and minimally invasive endovascular treatment. In particular, in the Department of Vascular Surgery, Dr. Castellano is engaged in perioperative planning and clinical management of patients in critical condition.

She is actively engaged in research in the field of aortic pathology, both in the abdominal and thoracic and abdominal divisions, paying special attention to the development of abdominal and thoracic aortic endoprostheses for the treatment of aneurysms and dissections.

Another area of interest is devoted to the pathology of the extracranial carotid artery, she delved into research topics related to indications, diagnostic imaging methods and intra- and postoperative management, in addition to the extended study of plaques. Dr. Castellano is also engaged in minimally invasive endovascular treatment using stents and antiembolic brain protection systems.

She is the author and co-author of 60 publications in industry scientific journals and co-author of 35 book chapters. Her Hirsch Index is 14. Constantly takes part in national and international industry congresses.
