Biography

Prof. Nadia Gisella Di Muzio is the Head of the Radiotherapy Unit of IRCCS Ospedale San Raffaele in Milan, and responsible for Prostatic Brachytherapy and Intraoperative Radiotherapy in the same Institute. She is also a tutor for the School of Specialization in Medical Physics at the University of Milan and for the School of Specialization in Radiotherapy at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Milan-Bicocca and professor at the University Vita-Salute San Raffaele.

She has worked as a doctor at the Radiochemotherapy Service of Ospedale San Raffaele in Milan since 1994, dealing with integrated radiochemotherapy treatment protocols for head and neck neoplasms and phase III chemotherapy treatment protocols for metastatic colorectal and breast tumors. She focuses on prostate cancer. She is President of the Italian Prostatic Brachytherapy Group, and promotes high precision hypofractionated methods for the radical treatment of prostate neoplasms. In addition, she holds specialist courses on the treatment of advanced prostatic pathology. From 2007 to 2008, she was in charge of the Functional Unit of Tomotherapy.

Her training began with a degree in Medicine and Surgery with honors in 1988 at the University of Milan. Then, she obtained specialization in Radiation Oncology with honors in the same university followed by a scholarship on the combined treatment of chemo-radiation of gynecological tumors, and then other scholarships related to cranial irradiation in pediatric patients undergoing bone marrow transplantation for leukemia and breast cancer provided by Ospedale San Raffaele in Milan. She has had some periods of residence abroad (America-University of Wisconsin and NY University New York) to get training in the use of high-tech radiotherapy equipment. Relatively recently, in 2009, she attended the Master program “Managerial Staff Training” for managers of Outpatient Area complex structure at Bocconi University in Milan.

She is a member of important Italian and international scientific societies such as SIURO, ESTRO and AIOM. Since 2013, he has been vice-president of AIRO Lombardia. She is also a member of the Scientific Committee of the Center for Hadrontherapy in Pavia and the Candiolo Cancer Institute.

She is the author of numerous book chapters and more than 200 publications (3500 citations and H-index of 31 - Google Scholar) published in prestigious scientific journals, where she is also a reviewer.
