Biography
Professor Maurizio Bignami is an Otorhinolaryngologist at Casa di Cura La Madonnina.
He graduated in Medicine and Surgery in 1996 from the University of Pavia and specialized in Otorhinolaryngology and Cervico-Facial Pathology in 2001.
During his training, he attended prestigious international institutions, including:
- Université Libre de Bruxelles
- Center for Anatomy & Cell Biology (University of Vienna)
- Chirurgie de la Face et du Cou, Paris.
From December 2019 to October 2023, he was Director of the Otorhinolaryngology Clinic at ASST Lariana, where he also served as Director of the Surgical Areas Department and Scientific Director of ASST Lariana.
Since November 2023, he has been Director of the Otorhinolaryngology Clinic at ASST Settelaghi, and since 2024, Scientific Director of the Center Research & FDRc Head and Neck Surgery & Forensic Dissection Research Center, Department of Biotechnology and Life Sciences, University of Insubria.
He currently also heads the Complex Operative Unit of Otorhinolaryngology at the Ospedale di Circolo e Fondazione Macchi in Varese.
In his academic career, Professor Bignami is Full Professor at the University of Insubria, teaching in the degree courses of Medicine and Surgery, Dentistry, Physiotherapy, and Dental Hygiene.
Since 2020, he has also been Director of the School of Specialization in Otorhinolaryngology at the University of Insubria.
In his surgical career, he has performed approximately 11,000 procedures, working in multidisciplinary teams with Neurosurgery and Maxillofacial Surgery specialists, treating diseases of:
- the maxillofacial area
- paranasal sinuses
- skull base
- sellar and parasellar region.
Over the years, he has devoted particular interest to inflammatory, malformative, and oncological pathologies of the paranasal sinuses and skull base, both in adults and pediatric patients.
This interest has resulted in 140 publications in impact factor journals and participation as a speaker in over 280 national and international congresses. H-index: 36.
