Biography

Professor Francesco De Cobelli is the Head of the Department of Radiology at the Ospedale San Raffaele Clinical Research Institute in Milan, as well as ordinary professor in radiology at Vita-Salute San Raffaele University. In addition, he is the Director of the School of Specialization in X-ray Diagnostics, Director of the International Doctorate in Clinical and Experimental Medicine at Vita-Salute San Raffaele University and Head of the Clinical and Experimental Radiology Research Unit at the Center for Experimental Imaging Methods at the Ospedale San Raffaele Clinical Research Institute.

After graduating from the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery of the University of Milan in 1991, he completed a specialization in X-ray diagnostics in the same place in 1995. In the process of obtaining higher education, he also studied in the United States, in particular, in 1988, he gained experience at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland.

He began his clinical career in 1996 as an inpatient assistant and then became the 1st level supervisor in the X-ray service of the Ospedale San Raffaele Clinical Research Institute in Milan. Subsequently, he became the coordinator of the site for educational and scientific work of the X-ray service of this institute, and since 2007 he took the position of the Head of the functional unit of magnetic resonance imaging of the X-ray Department.

His main areas of clinical and research work include magnetic resonance imaging, abdominal x-ray, cardiac imaging, oncological imaging, and interventional radiology in oncology. In recent years, Professor Francesco De Cobelli has taken up the study of the impact of diagnostic imaging in oncology (focusing on magnetic resonance imaging of the prostate and imaging of hepatobiliopancreatic tumors and tumors of the stomach and esophagus, as well as colon and rectum) and interventional radiology in the treatment of liver and kidneys. Recently, he has also shown interest in radiomics as applied to solid tumors.

He is currently the principal investigator and second principal investigator in numerous multicenter trials that focus primarily on interventional radiology and diagnostic imaging. Being the author of 212 scientific articles published in national and international journals, books on magnetic resonance imaging and more than 30 chapters in other books, Professor Francesco De Cobelli is among the people with high H index and citations (Scopus source: 38 and 5668; Google Scholar source: 45 and 7606). She regularly participates in industry symposia and conferences at the national and international level.
