Angelo Manfredi

Biography

Professor Angelo Manfredi is Coordinator of Care Area Activities at the Unit of Immunology, Rheumatology, Allergology and Rare Diseases of IRCCS Ospedale San Raffaele directed by Professor Lorenzo Dagna.

Since 2003, he is in charge of the Autoimmunity and Vascular Inflammation Research Unit in the Division of Immunology, Transplantation and Infectious Diseases at the same Institute. Since 2004, he is Associate Professor of Rheumatology at the Faculty of Medicine of the University Vita-Salute San Raffaele in Milan.

After the Degree in Medicine and Surgery at the University of Milan in 1985, he specialized in Allergology and Clinical Immunology at the same university in 1989. From 1987 to 1992, he studied at the University of Minnesota at Saint Paul and, in 1997, at the Marseille Luminy Immunology Center.

His clinical practice focuses on patients with chronic autoimmune-based diseases (systemic autoimmune diseases, connective tissue diseases, systemic vasculitis), with a particular focus on associated rheumatologic damage and management of joint and vascular damage.

His research activity is focused on systemic autoimmune diseases and small and large vessel vasculitis. In recent years, Prof. Manfredi and his collaborators have focused on the mechanisms underlying vascular inflammation, the effects of autoimmunity on tissue repair mechanisms and the identification of biomarkers of prognosis and organ involvement.

He is author and co-author of more than 240 scientific publications in international journals. His papers have received over 15000 citations since 1992, with an H index of 60 as of July 2020 (Top Italian Scientists, http://www.topitalianscientists.org/home). He is a corresponding member of the Istituto Lombardo and Accademia di Scienze e Lettere (http://www.istitutolombardo.it/).
