Viktoryia LuhakovaOn the occasion of Expo 2025 Osaka, IRCCS Ospedale Galeazzi–Sant’Ambrogio, in collaboration with Valore Italia, the Botticino School of Restoration, and the University of Milan, will take center stage at the international conference “Art and Technology: An Open Challenge,” dedicated to the dialogue between scientific innovation and the preservation of cultural heritage.
“We are proud to be part of this initiative and consider our collaboration with Valore Italia to be strategic, as it demonstrates how centers of excellence, although operating in different fields, can successfully work together. This principle represents one of the cornerstones of the MIND project.
This partnership highlights the dual nature of IRCCS Ospedale Galeazzi–Sant’Ambrogio: on the one hand, its clinical vocation, characterized by the management of complex cases and excellence in care pathways; on the other, its strong commitment to scientific research, which extends beyond traditional medicine and creates fertile ground for innovation and interdisciplinary dialogue,” states Dr. Roberto Crugnola, Director of IRCCS Ospedale Galeazzi–Sant’Ambrogio.
Conference program
The event took place on October 9, 2025 at the Italy Pavilion. The objective is to highlight the contribution of scientific and technological research to the conservation and restoration of works of art.
The conference will open with remarks by Mario Vattani, Commissioner General for Italy at Expo 2025 Osaka, and Francesca Caruso, Regional Minister for Culture of Lombardy.

- Luca Maria Sconfienza, Head of the Diagnostic and Interventional Radiology Unit, IRCCS Ospedale Galeazzi–Sant’Ambrogio;

Throughout the day, experiences and case studies on the use of CT scanning and X-ray imaging applied to cultural heritage will be presented, along with contributions from international experts such as Marco Leona, Director of the Scientific Research Department at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, and Elisabetta Patti, Head of Cultural Projects at Fondazione Bracco.
A model of collaboration and innovation
The conference is part of the excellence initiatives promoted by the Italian system at Expo 2025, with the aim of strengthening international cooperation and underscoring the central role of scientific research in preserving and enhancing global artistic heritage.
The collaboration among the participating institutions represents one of the best practices to emerge from MIND – Milan Innovation District, serving as a concrete example of cooperation between healthcare, research, and culture. Ten years after Expo Milano 2015, this experience is being presented in Osaka as a virtuous model of innovation applied to the protection of artistic heritage.
