Simona Piemontese

Biography

Simona Piemontese is a hematologist of the Department of Hematology and Bone Marrow Transplantation at the IRCCS Ospedale San Raffaele under the supervision of Professor Fabio Ciceri.

After receiving a diploma in Medicine and Surgery at the Vita-Salute San Raffaele University of Milan in 2008. She majored in hematology at the same university in 2014, devoting the last 18 months of her specialty to clinical research in the field of transplantation for acute leukemia at the Acute Leukemia Working Party at Hopital Saint Antoine in Paris. Also in 2014, she received a university diploma in allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation at the Pierre and Marie Curie Faculty of Medicine, Sorbonne University, Paris V. Finally, in September 2019, she visited the Memorial Sloan Kattering Bone Marrow Transplantation and Cell Therapy Department in New York, USA.

From a clinical point of view, Dr. Piemontese mainly deals with the diagnosis and treatment of hematological neoplasms:

  • acute and chronic leukemia,
  • myeloproliferative lymphomas,
  • myeloma.

She also monitors patients with non-malignant diseases, but with indications for allogeneic transplantation, collaborating with various pathology assistants to better prepare the patient for the transplantation procedure: aplastic anemia, birth defects (primary immunodeficiency, hematological defects associated with mono- or trilinear bone marrow insufficiency).

She is the author and co-author of several scientific articles published in international journals. She constantly participates in international congresses and conferences in the industry.
