Biography

Dr. Riccardo Maggiore is a general surgeon and endocrine surgeon in the Department of Surgery of the IRCCS Ospedale San Raffaele under the supervision of Professor Riccardo Rosati.

After graduating in 2010 from the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery at the Vita-Salute San Raffaele University of Milan, he received his specialization in general surgery from the same university in 2016.

Clinically, the doctor mainly deals with the diagnosis and treatment of pathologies of the endocrine system, his interest is in the field of surgery (benign or malignant nodular pathology of the thyroid gland with or without involvement of the lymph nodes, primary or secondary hyperparathyroidism, and nodular pathology of the adrenal glands in the secretory or non-secretory form).

In this context, the doctor applies a surgical approach both at the traditional and minimally invasive level, using in both cases the most modern technologies in the field of surgery (for example, intraoperative nerve monitoring – IONM – for which he received special training courses). He performed about 300 endocrinology surgeries as the first surgeon and participated in about 2,000 endocrinology surgeries as part of the operating team (mostly as the second surgeon).

The doctor individually develops the surgical trajectory for each patient after a multidisciplinary assessment involving endocrinologists (possibly also pediatric), radiologists and ultrasound specialists specializing in endocrine pathology, bone metabolism specialists and nephrologists (special attention is paid to the definition of surgery and dispensary observation for oncological pathology of the thyroid gland, in accordance with the latest international guidelines and in the context of an interdisciplinary assessment, which always also includes the participation of an endocrinologist).

He constantly participates as a speaker at national and international conferences.
