Pier Alberto Testoni
Biography
Professor Pier Alberto Testoni is the Ordinary Professor of Gastroenterology at the Vita-Salute San Raffaele University, where he teaches multidisciplinary courses in Digestive Tract Diseases and Digestive System (training course in English). He also collaborates with the Casa di Cura La Madonnina Clinic.
He graduated from the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery of the University of Milan, where he specialized in gastroenterology and specialized in digestive surgery and endoscopy of the digestive system. He has gained extensive experience by studying abroad. He is a visiting fellow at the University of Erlangen, as well as a visiting fellow at the University of Leuven and at the Hospital Val d'Hebron in Barcelona. In 2002, he was the Visiting Professor at Duke University in Durham (USA).
During his career, Professor Testoni has been involved in the development of surgical endoscopy of the biliary tract and pancreas (he has performed over 10000 endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography or ERCP procedures), new technologies in endoluminal surgery of the digestive tract (in the treatment of gastroesophageal reflux, Barrett's oesophagus and oesophageal and gastric motility disorders, as well as for the removal of precancerous lesions and early forms of cancer) and advanced endoscopic imaging techniques, particularly of the pancreas.
He is the author of 26 books and book chapters and of 252 publications (H-Index Scopus 35, citations 5,871)) in leading international trade journals.
He has recently coordinated the drafting of the European Society of Digestive Endoscopy (ESGE) guidelines on ERCP technique, and is currently coordinator of the ESGE biliopancreatic endoscopy study group and the member of the World Endoscopy Organization (WEO) board of directors for biliopancreatic endoscopy.
He was the member of the ESGE guideline working group aimed at preventing pancreatitis after ERCP.
He is the member of the Italian Society of Digestive Endoscopy (SIED) and its former chairman, the Italian Society of Gastroenterology (SIGE), the American Gastroenterological Association (AGA) and the European Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ESGE). He is also a Fellow of the American Association for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ASGE).
He is Associate Editor of the Journal of Pancreas and the member of the editorial board of the journals Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, Endoscopy and Digestive and Liver Disease.
