Biography

Dr. Paola Giovanna Granelli is a gastroenterologist and endoscopist at the Casa di Cura La Madonnina.

In 1981, she graduated from the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery of the University of Milan; in 1986 she specialized in surgery of the digestive system and digestive endoscopy at the University of Milan. In 1992, she received a specialization in oncology at the University of Milan. 

Attended postgraduate courses at the Endoscopy Center in St. Mark's Hospital in London in 1982, in the Department of Gastroenterology and Endoscopy at Middlesex Hospital in London in 1983; British Postgraduate Medical Federation (University of London) postgraduate course in Gastroenterology in London in 1982.

She has participated in numerous advanced training courses in gastroenterology and digestive endoscopy in Italy and abroad. She served as a mentor both for the course of medicine and surgery, and for postgraduate studies in surgery of the digestive system and digestive endoscopy I, as well as for practical evaluation internship within the state examination for qualification for the profession of surgeon, again at the University of Milan.

Dr. Granelli mainly dealt with gastroesophageal reflux disease and Barrett's esophagus, postcholecystectomy syndrome and duodenogastric reflux, varioliform gastropathy and food intolerance, precancerous diseases of the esophagus, stomach and colon, in particular intestinal metaplasia and colon adenomas, endoscopic treatment of esophageal strictures (caustic, inflammatory), endoscopic treatment of obesity (endogastric balloons), functional pathology of the colon.

She was an Associate Professor for teaching Endoscopic Semiotics of the Digestive System in the Semiotics and Systematics Course I for the Master's Course of Medicine and Surgery A.A. 2005-6 to 2011-12.

Within the scientific research, she participated in the study of molecular changes in precancerous conditions of the digestive tract and in tumors of the esophagus, stomach, and colon (oncogenes, suppressor genes in metaplasia of the stomach and intestines, Barrett's esophagus, with colon adenomas), published several original papers.

She also conducted clinical studies in the field of varioliform gastropathy, duodenogastric reflux, endoscopic treatment of obesity and complications during its surgical treatment (endogastric balloons, erosion after gastric banding, fistulas). Participated in writing 180 scientific publications.
