Mauro Lo Rito

Biography

Dr. Mauro Lo Rito is a cardiac surgeon in the Departments of Pediatric Cardiac Surgery and Adult Congenital Cardiac Surgery of the IRCCS Policlinico San Donato in Milan.

In 2006, he graduated from the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery at the University of Padua, where he received his Postgraduate Diploma in Cardiac Surgery in 2011.

Dr. Lo Rito has consolidated his expertise in the field of congenital heart defects through numerous experiences in prestigious Italian and foreign centers: from 2009 to 2010 at the Center for Cardiovascular Diseases of Guatemala (Ciudad de Guatemala) under the guidance of Dr. Castañeda, in 2011 at the Pediatric Cardiac Surgery Department under the guidance of Professor Giovanni Stellin at Azienda Ospedale University of Padua, at Birmingham Children Hospital (UK) (UK) from 2012 to 2013 and at The Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto from 2013 to 2015. 

In addition to the surgical treatment of congenital anomalies, Dr. Lo Rito focuses on coronary anomalies (AAOC) and minimally invasive approaches in the context of congenital heart disease.    

He has published more than 30 scientific papers in international peer-reviewed journals, as well as participated in major multicenter studies. Strongly passionate about research, Dr. Lo Rito is engaged in: 

Analysis of the results of treatment of congenital heart defects in the short and long term;

Abnormal divergence of coronary arteries from the aorta (AAOCA): pathogenetic mechanism, risk stratification, computer simulation models and surgical treatment.

Treatment of arterial switching and the results of transpositions of the main arteries.

Surgical Treatment of the Adult Congenital Patient (ACHD-GUCH) with particular interest in the treatment of pulmonary and tricuspid valve insufficiency.
