Mauro Ghirardi
Biography
Dr. Mauro Ghirardi is the Head of the General Surgery Department at the Istituto Clinico Città di Brescia.
After graduating in Medicine and Surgery from the University of Brescia in 1992, he attended the Abdominal Surgery Department at the Catholic University of Leuven in Belgium in 1998. There, he received comprehensive training in digestive surgery, both laparoscopic and open, and furthered his scientific research in the laboratory.
During his specialized training years, Dr. Ghirardi focused on studying malignant and benign diseases of the digestive system, particularly of the colon and rectum. In 1999, he obtained his specialization in Digestive Surgery and Digestive Endoscopy with top honors from the University of Brescia. Additionally, from November 2001 to January 2003, he served as a Lecturer in General Surgery.
His professional experience includes, between 1999 and 2002, various collaborations with the Spedali Civili di Brescia as a Level I Medical Director in General Surgery. From 2003, he became a Medical Director in the Vascular Surgery Department at the Istituto Clinico Città di Brescia, a position he held until 2013.
In 2002, he won a two-year Research Grant for "Pathophysiological Aspects of Surgical Treatment of Severe Obesity." Dr. Ghirardi is a member of several prestigious scientific societies, including the European Association of Coloproctology (ESCP), the Italian Society of Digestive Endoscopy (SIED), the European Association for Endoscopic Surgery (EAES), and the European Crohn's and Colitis Organisation (ECCO).
His medical practice focuses on Digestive System Diseases, from diagnosis and endoscopic treatment of pre-neoplastic lesions (polypectomies, EMR) to surgical treatment using traditional and, especially, minimally invasive laparoscopic approaches. Specifically, he treats neoplastic and benign conditions of the gallbladder, stomach, and colon-rectum.
