Biography

Dr. Mario Martinotti is a general surgeon and the Head of the General Surgery Unit at the Istituto di Cura Città di Pavia. He also collaborates with the Istituto Beato Matteo in Vigevano.

He graduated in Medicine and Surgery from the University of Pavia in 1982. He completed his specialization in General Surgery in 1987 and in Experimental Surgery and Microsurgery in 1990 at the same institution. In 1988, he obtained a PhD in Surgical Sciences from the Ministry of Public Education in Rome.

During his training years, Dr. Martinotti held a research scholarship at the Policlinico San Matteo in Pavia. He also trained at the Service de Chirurgie Digestive at Hopital Beaujon in Paris and the Department de Chirurgie General Carcinologique at the Institut Gustave Roussy in Paris.

Throughout his professional career, he has worked as a hospital assistant in Stradella, and as a senior hospital assistant in Massa Carrara and Voghera. In 1999, he was appointed Chief Surgeon at the Hospital of Varzi (PV) with oversight of general surgery at the Hospital of Mede (PV). In 2007, he won the competition for the position of Chief Surgeon at the Ospedale Maggiore in Cremona, where he also served as Head of the Department until the end of 2019.

Since 2020, he has been responsible for General Surgery at the Istituto di Cura Città di Pavia, where he focuses on:

  • Oncological surgery
  • Laparoscopic and minimally invasive surgery
  • Endocrine surgery
  • Gastrointestinal surgery
  • Hepatobiliopancreatic surgery
  • Abdominal wall surgery

He is co-author of approximately 100 publications and has written surgical texts and chapters on surgical techniques for various treatises.
