Mario Benazzi

Dr. Mario Benazzi is an orthopedic and sports traumatologist, knee surgeon and arthroscopist, physiotherapist, sports rehabilitation specialist, and works at the Clinico San Siro in Milan.

In 1973, he graduated from the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery at the University of Pavia, where in 1976 he received his first specialization in orthopedics and traumatology, and six years later – specialization in physical and rehabilitation medicine. Subsequently, in 1978, he received a specialization in sports medicine at the University of Chieti.

Founder of the Italian Society of Sports Traumatology, the Italian Society of Arthroscopy and the Italian Society of Knee Surgery.

He is the member of several national and international scientific societies, including the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine. 

In the period from the 1980s to the 1990s, he was the doctor of the Geas di Sesto San Giovanni team in women's Serie A basketball and for more than ten years Internazionale F.C. in Milan, football Serie A. Operational casuistry of several thousand orthopedic interventions, mainly in the field of meniscus and knee ligament surgery of athletes.

Among his duties during his professional career are: Hospital Assistant, then Assistant, Head of the Department of Sports Traumatology and Director of the Center for Arthroscopic Surgery Clinica Ortopedica of the University of Pavia – Policlinico S. Matteo until 2000; Assistant Head of the Department of Arthroscopic Surgery at the Ospedale di Legnano from 2000 to 2001; Head of the Department of Arthroscopic and Knee Surgery at the Istituto Clinico Sant’Ambrogio in 2002 and Assistant at the Center for Orthopedic Surgery and collaborator of Professor Romagnoli for Arthroscopic and Capsular Ligament Surgery of the Knee at the IRCCS Istituto Ortopedico Galeazzi between 2016 and 2018. Since 2003 he has been doing knee surgery at the Istituto Clinico San Siro.
