Maria Lucia Vicario

Biography

Dr. Maria Lucia Vicario is cardiologist of the Clinical Cardiology Unit of IRCCS Policlinico San Donato.

In 1996, she graduates in Medicine and Surgery with honors from the University Federico II of Naples. At the same University, she also obtains specialization in Cardiology in 2002 and PhD in Clinical Pathophysiology and Cardiovascular Diseases.

In 2003, she obtains fellowship at the University of Virginia, and since 2002 she has been working as a doctor in several hospitals: Casa di Cure Villa dei Fiori e Ospedale Fatebenefratelli in Naples, Istituto Clinico Beato Matteo in Vigevano, Ospedale Niguarda e Polispecialistico Lambrate in Milan.

At IRCCS Policlinico San Donato since 2019, Dr. Vicario is a consultant in clinical cardiology. She carries out the following examinations:

  • clinical echocardiography,
  • transesophageal echocardiogram,
  • physical and pharmacological stress echo,
  • transcranial echodoppler,
  • ultrasonography in patients with heart failure, with strain-rate determination and right ventricular study in patients in ECMO and VAD.

She is also involved in the study of cardiac transplant candidates, the study of Mitra-clip system with Echonavigator software, the use of Impella devices in acute decompensation, strain-rate before and after TAVI, and the incidence of stroke in patients undergoing ECMO.
