Biography
Dr. Marco Montagna is an internal medicine physician at the General Medicine Unit for Metabolic Health and Agingat IRCCS Ospedale San Raffaele.
In 2017, he graduated in Medicine and Surgery (English-taught International Medical Doctor Program - IMDP) at Vita-Salute San Raffaele University, where he later specialized in Internal Medicine in 2023.
During his final year of specialization, he began his PhD journey in the Physician Scientist Program of the International Doctoral School at UniSR, within the Experimental and Clinical Medicine curriculum. His research focuses on the application of artificial intelligence to real-world clinical data. As part of his PhD, he was a Visiting Researcher at the University of Cambridge (UK) and Addenbrooke's Hospital (Cambridge University Hospital).
Dr. Montagna specializes in the management of complex patients and their care pathways across different healthcare settings. His approach emphasizes patient-centered care, prioritizing the well-being of both patients and their families, with empathy as a cornerstone of the doctor-patient relationship.
Within the General Medicine Unit, led by Prof. Rovere Querini, he oversees projects related to the collection and analysis of real-world data generated through doctor-patient interactions during hospital admissions and outpatient activities.
His research focuses on developing and optimizing the entire data collection, processing, and analysis pipeline. Specifically, he works on:
- Data collection systems (eCRF)
- Integration and interoperability of various databases and data silos
- Data extraction and processing for statistical analysis
- Training and testing of machine learning systems, with a focus on robustness and interpretability.
