Biography

Dr. Ignazio Marcoccio is chief orthopedist of the Center for Hand Surgery and Peripheral Nerve Microsurgery at the Brescia City Clinical Institute.

He graduated in Medicine and Surgery from the University of Catania in 1999.

In 2005, he completed his residency in Orthopaedics and Traumatology at the University of Modena.

In 2007, he obtained the University Diploma in Microsurgical Techniques at Université Paris XIII.  

As a result of his studies, first at the School of Specialization in Modena and then at the University of Paris, he acquired particular expertise in the field of Hand Surgery and Peripheral Nerve Reconstructive Microsurgery from the earliest years of his practice.

He has held various positions such as:

  • since 2002, Councilor, Secretary and current Treasurer of the Italian Society of Microsurgery (SIM);
  • since 2015, Councilor and current Treasurer of the Italian Society of Surgery of the Hand (SICM);
  • from 2009 to present, Organizer and Coordinator of the SIM - SICM Advanced Course in Microsurgery.

Dr. Marcoccio's main areas of interest are:

  • the Surgery of the Hand, Elbow and Shoulder,
  • the Reconstructive Microsurgery of Peripheral Nerves of the Upper and Lower Limb.

In particular, at the Orthopedic Microsurgery and Upper Limb Surgery Unit, he treats severe and disabling nerve injuries of the Brachial Plexus and peripheral nerves that produce paralysis of the limb (upper or lower or part of it), presenting severe and heavy repercussions on the patient's social and family life.    

He is an author and co-author of over 21 book chapters, over 21 publications in international scientific journals and as many 20 publications in national scientific journals.
