Biography

Professor Giorgio Ettore Rossi is a General, Abdominal, and Hepatobiliary Surgeon at the Casa di Cura la Madonnina. He also collaborates with Punto RAF Respighi.

After obtaining his degree in Medicine and Surgery from the University of Milan in 1977, he specialized at the same university, first in General Surgery (1982) and then in Microsurgery (1985), also completing several stays abroad (Germany - United States - Japan) to deepen his expertise in general surgery, hepatobiliopancreatic surgery, and liver transplants.

In 1989, he obtained the National Certification of Eligibility for Chief of General Surgery. In 2002, he graduated with honors from the Management Training Course for Complex Structure Managers at Bocconi University in Milan. From 2008 to 2010, he coordinated the II-level Master’s Program in Microsurgery at the University of Milan.

Throughout his career, Professor Giorgio Ettore Rossi worked at the Fondazione Ca' Granda Ospedale Maggiore Policlinico of Milan, where from 2006 to 2010, he served as Co-Director of the Surgical Area and Transplant Department. From 2005 to 2021, he was the Director of the Complex Operative Unit of General Surgery and Liver Transplants, and since 2022, he has been a consultant for the same Unit.

In 2014, the Operative Unit received a Certificate of Civic Merit from the Municipality of Milan for achieving outstanding results, and in 2017, Professor Rossi was awarded the Ambrogino d’Oro by the Municipality of Milan.

Additionally, from 2005 to 2012, he was the Director of the Pediatric Surgery Specialization School at the University of Milan, and he continues to collaborate with Pediatric Surgery at the Foundation for pediatric surgical interventions on the liver and biliary tract (choledochal cysts, biliary malformations, liver tumors, biliary atresia).

His clinical activity focuses on Digestive System Surgery, where, in addition to the traditional approach, he uses minimally invasive/robotic techniques. Specifically, Professor Rossi mainly treats malignant and benign neoplastic pathologies affecting:

  • the liver
  • gallbladder and biliary tract
  • pancreas

He also deals with:

  • abdominal wall surgery
  • large laparoceles
  • outpatient surgery

For the treatment of focal liver lesions (hepatocellular carcinoma, cholangiocarcinoma, adenomas, hemangiomas, focal nodular hyperplasia), the professor uses the most innovative techniques, ranging from minimally invasive ones, such as laparoscopic or percutaneous thermoablation, to major surgical interventions using both open and minimally invasive techniques.

His liver transplant experience has contributed to improving the surgical treatment of liver and biliary tract pathologies in both adults and children (choledochal cysts - biliary malformations - liver tumors - biliary atresia). He has a surgical record of over 6,000 general surgery operations as the primary surgeon or supervisor, both elective and emergency.

As for his research activities, these mainly focus on abdominal surgery, specifically liver, gallbladder, and biliary tract diseases, pancreas, and liver transplants, with over 250 indexed scientific publications.
