Gilberto Mari

Gilberto Mari is a referent of the Department of Functional Endocrine Surgery at the Week Surgery IRCCS Ospedale San Raffaele, headed by Professor Riccardo Rosati.

After graduating in 1983 from the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery of the University of Milan, in 1988 he specialized in general surgery, again at the University of Milan. In 2005, he received a Master's degree in Neck Surgery level II from the University of Padua and since then has been conducting clinical and surgical activities in the Department of Endocrine Surgery at San Raffaele in Milan.

Dr. Gilberto Mari conducts diagnostic and therapeutic measures for benign and malignant diseases of the thyroid, parathyroid and adrenal glands. He deals with nodular pathologies of the thyroid gland: from single nodes to multi-nodular goiter (including with the spread to the mediastinum), hyperfunctional goiter and Basal disease. Dr. Mari has experience in the treatment of all types of thyroid cancer (including those spread to the cervical lymph nodes), primary, secondary and tertiary hyperparathyroidism. He uses both traditional and minimally invasive surgical techniques, such as intraoperative recurrent nerve monitoring, to reduce vocal complications associated with thyroid surgery.

As the chief surgeon, he performed more than 1,500 operations on the thyroid and parathyroid glands.

The department treats patients from the first outpatient visit (the NHS outpatient clinic deals with thyroid surgery) to discharge after surgery, outpatient examinations and follow-up, using an interdisciplinary approach. He shares with endocrinologists an interdisciplinary approach to monitoring patients operated on for thyroid cancer. The Department of Endocrine Surgery is accredited as a reference center of SIUEC (Unified Italian Society of Endocrine Surgery) and works together with endocrinologists and radiologists of the hospital, with pediatricians on thyroid pathology in children, and on parathyroid pathology - together with specialists of the Center for Bone Metabolism and Nephrology department.

Constantly participates in national and international industry congresses.
