Biography

Dr. Gaspare Monaco is an ophthalmologist and Head of the Ophthalmology Operating Unit at Policlinico San Donato.

He graduated from the University of Milan in 2004 with a degree in Medicine and Surgery, and in November of the same year he obtained his License to Practice. In 2008, he completed his specialized studies in Ophthalmology at the same university. He has been a member of the Milan Register of Physicians and Surgeons since 30.01.2009.

He has gained several experiences abroad including:

Dr. Monaco has a high specialization in the treatment of:

  • cataract (complex calculation of multifocal and toric artificial lens);
  • refractive surgery (FemtoLASIK, Smile and PRK);
  • high myopia (phakic intraocular lens implantation);
  • glaucoma (valve implants);
  • clinical and surgical cornea (transplants);
  • traumatology (complex anterior segment reconstructions);
  • ocular infections;
  • dry eye.

He also has surgical experience and experience in using ad hoc instrumentation for:

  • cataract surgery by ultrasound (Alcon Infinity and Centurion Vision System)
  • cataract surgery by Femtolaser (Alcon LenSx System, Bausch & Lomb Technolas Perfect Vision Victus, Bausch & Lomb STELLARIS, Johnson & Johnson Catalys Precision Laser System)
  • secondary intraocular lens implants in aphakia using Yamane's technique
  • corneal transplantation (UT-DSAEK, PK/DALK)
  • laser surgery for correction of visual defects by FemtoLASIK, Smile, PRK, t-PRK (Bausch & Lomb Technolas Perfect Vision Teneo 317 + AMO IFS 150 Hz or B+L Victus)
  • Laser surgery for corneal scar removal using PTK/PRK (Bausch & Lomb Technolas Perfect Vision Teneo 317, ZEISS VisuMax)
  • Glaucoma surgery: SLT/MLT, Transcleral Cyclophotocoagulation with G-Probe (CTCP), XEN-gel stent implantation (Allergan) and iStent inject W (Glaukos),
  • Preserflo micro-shunt implantation (Santen)
  • treatment of exudative maculopathy (including diabetic)
  • anti-VEGF intraocular injections: Eylea, Lucentis, Avastin
  • dexamethasone intraocular injections: Ozurdex
  • treatment of dry eye
  • pulsed light (IRPL)
  • LipiFlow.
