Biography

Since 2018, Dr. Elena De Vecchi has been the Head of the Operational Department of the Laboratory of Chemical, Clinical and Microbiological Analysis of the IRCCS Istituto Ortopedico Galeazzi in Milan. She graduated from the course of Biological Sciences at the University of Milan and has been specializing in microbiology and virology since 2002.

As a researcher, he focuses on the study of the activity of antibiotics in vitro, the mechanisms of action of probiotics, the study of microbial biofilm and the diagnosis of infections associated with biofilm.

As for the academic field, since 2012 she has been an expert in the subject of the course "Diagnostic methods of microbiology, virology, mycology and parasitology" at the University of Milan. There she also carries out teaching activities in the technical sciences of the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of diseases in the course of biomedical laboratory technologies. Currently, he is an adjunct professor of the course of clinical microbiology and related diagnostic methods, as well as the course of diagnostic methods of microbiology, virology, mycology and parasitology.

Author of more than 100 publications, most of which appeared in indexed journals with national and international circulation, such as Journal of Chromatography, Clinical Chemistry, Amino Acids, European Journal of Pharmacology, Heart, Farmaci & Terapia, Clinical Microbiology and Infection, Journal of Orthopedics, Bone and Joint Journal, Clinical Orthopedic and Related Research, BMC Infectious Diseases, Future Microbiology (Hirsch Index- 24).

She is registered in the National Order of Biologists (since 1997) and is a member of the European Society of Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases (ESCIMD) and the Italian Association of Clinical Microbiologists (AMCLI).
