Dr. Carmela Asteria is an endocrinologist at the Palazzo della Salute-Wellness Clinic and the Sant'Ambrogio Clinical Institute. In addition, she is an endocrinologist, postgraduate intern and scientific coordinator of the Clinical Institute for the Treatment of Obesity (INCO) at the IRCCS Policlinico San Donato. She also collaborates with Smart Clinic.
In 1992 she received the degree of Doctor of Medicine and Surgery at the University of Milan, where in 1998 she received a specialization in endocrinology and metabolic disorders. She continues her studies by attending doctoral studies in clinical biochemistry and clinical molecular biology at the same university.
Her main areas of interest are:
- Clinical field: endocrinology (thyroid pathology - hypothyroidism, hyperthyroidism, thyroid nodules, thyroid pathology during pregnancy, polycystic ovaries, hormonal imbalance in menopause, osteopenia and osteoporosis), dietetics in obesity (preparation of personalized diets and ketogenic diet) and performing bioimpedance analysis to assess body composition
- Diagnostic area: Ultrasound of the thyroid gland and parathyroid gland and echocolloppler of the thyroid gland
- Field of research: fundamental research with knowledge of various methods of molecular biology for the analysis of DNA, RNA and proteins. Clinical research with scientific skills of coordination, design, implementation and compilation of clinical diagnostic protocols.
Dr. Asteria is also engaged in teaching. Since 2016, she has been an assistant and mentor to students with a Master's degree in Food and Human Nutrition at the University of Milan, and in 2018 she received a master's degree in Molecular Biology Applied in Nutrition Sciences (BIONUTRI) from the same university.
She is an ordinary member of the Italian Society of Endocrinology (SIE), the Association of Endocrinologists (AME) and the Italian Society of Obesity Surgery (SICOB).
She is also the author and co-author of numerous scientific articles, reports at national and international conferences and book chapters, as well as a reviewer of some of the most prestigious international scientific journals (Thyroid, European Journal of Endocrinology, International Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism, Minerva Endocrinologica, Endocrine, Circulation).
