Biography

Dr. Carlo Marco Mandelli heads the Functional Unit of Neoplastic Surgery of the Peripheral nervous system in the Operational Unit of Neurosurgery of the IRCCS Ospedale San Raffaele, headed by Professor Pietro Mortini.

After graduating from the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery of the University of Milan in 1997, he specialized in neurosurgery in 2002 at the Vita Salute San Raffaele University in Milan. During his studies, he worked abroad for some time, in particular, in Spain, at the University of Extemadura, with grants provided by Ministry of Health Spain for surgical approaches to the base of the skull. Other periods of work abroad: in Florianopolis (Brazil), the University of Santa Catarina, on surgery of the peripheral nervous system, and in the USA - as part of a research project on the surgical anatomy of lateral access to the lumbar spine.

Dr. Mandelli's area of clinical interest is surgical pathologies of the spine (neoplastic, traumatic and degenerative) and neoplastic, vascular and surgical pathologies of the brain and medulla oblongata. He also deals with neoplasms of the peripheral nervous system and gamma knife. Dr. Mandelli has performed more than 3,000 neurosurgical interventions as the first surgeon. He also performed stereotactic radiosurgery using a gamma knife.

As a researcher, he stands out for his studies of the surgical anatomy of the spine and the base of the skull with appropriate morphometric analyses and their processing.

He is the author and co-author of numerous publications in industry scientific journals and book chapters. His Hirsch index is 9. He constantly participates in national and international industry congresses.
