Antonio Susa

Dr. Antonio Susa is the head of the II Department of Bariatric Surgery at the IRCCS Policlinico San Donato di Milano.

He studied at the University of Ferrara, where he receives a higher education in medicine and surgery, first specializing in thoracic surgery, and then in emergency surgery. Subsequently, he attended advanced training courses in thoracic surgery at the University of Modena and laparoscopic surgery at the University of Padua.

He received a diploma in advanced endoscopic surgical skills from Ninewells Hospital and Medical School Dundee in the UK, a diploma from Surgery University at the European Institute of Telesurgery in Strasbourg and a Master's degree in Nutrition and Clinical Dietetics from the Institute of Higher Education in Rome. He also attends the Management and Organization course for Medical Executives at the Bocconi University School of Corporate Governance in Milan.

Dr. Antonio Susa performs more than 6,000 interventions as the first surgeon in all departments of general, oncological and thoracic surgery, especially in laparoscopic surgery, in which he has performed more than 3,000 interventions, mainly in advanced laparoscopic surgery (colorectal, gastric, esophageal, adrenal and renal hernias). He also devoted himself to obesity surgery, having more than 4,500 cases of treatment with laparoscopic gastric banding, sleeve gastrectomy, bypass gastric anastomosis and , as well as 210 procedures with an intragastric balloon.

He has one of the most difficult cases of mini-gastric bypass surgery in Italy (unique bypass anastomosis), performed more than 1,500 operations. He received the first prize for the best scientific report on gastroplication and the first prize for the best poster at the Congress of the Italian Society for Surgery in Private Hospitals (SICOP).

His articles have been published in journals Obesity Surgery, Surgical Endoscopy Journale Giornale di Chirurgia Italiana.
