Antonio Secchi

Biography

Professor Antonio Secchi is the Head of the Department of General Medicine and Transplantology at the IRCCS San Raffaele Hospital in Milan and the Ordinary Professor of Internal Medicine at the Vita Salute San Raffaele University, where he is also the Director of the School of Specialization in Emergency and Critical Care and the Director of the School of Specialization in Internal Medicine.

His studies began in 1978 when he graduated in Medicine and Surgery at the University of Milan; from 1978 to 1982 he was a Postdoctoral Fellow, first at the Ospedale San Carlo Hospital in Internal Medicine and then at the Claude Bernard University in Lyon, France, in Nephrology. In 1982 he specialized in respiratory diseases at the University of Milan and in 1986 in Diabetology at the same University.

During his career, he has held numerous positions: from 1982 to 1987 he was an assistant in the Department of Internal Medicine at the IRCCS San Raffaele Hospital in Milan, and then became a Hospital Assistant in the Department of Internal Medicine of the same Institute (1987-2002). From 1988 to 1994 he was Scientific Coordinator of the Research Group of the Italian Society of Diabetology, and from 2004 to 2007 was Coordinator of the Research Group in Immunology and Transplantation of the Italian Society of Diabetology. From 1997 to 2005 has held different managerial positions, in particular Vice Chairman and Chairman of the major international societies, namely AIDPIT (Artificial Insulin Delivery Systems, Pancreas and Islet Transplantation) and IPITA (International Pancreas and Islet Transplantation). He is also the member of the Board of Directors of the Transplantation Society.

The author of more than 230 articles published in national and international scientific journals and 60 book chapters, Professor Antonio Secchi has an H-index of 45 (Scopus). He has also participated in more than 600 international congresses. He is in charge of stage 2 and 3 clinical trials.
