Biography

Dr. Andrea Formiga is a general surgeon and endoscopist at the Casa di Cura La Madonnina Clinic, as well as the Director of the Interdisciplinary Center for Bariatrics and Obesity (C.I.B.O.) in Milan.

After graduating from the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery of the University of Milan (1996), he specialized in general surgery (2002) at the same university.

From 1994 to 1997, the doctor takes his first steps in the profession as a student / doctor, attending the Department of general surgery of the Hospital Ospedale San Giuseppe in Milan. Since 1998, he has been working as a specialist in general surgery, first as a specialist doctor and then as a freelance worker at the Policlinico San Marco Clinical Institute, under the direction of Professor Carlo Rebuffat.

From 2008 he devoted himself to bariatrics at the Clinica San Carlo in Milan, from 2014 to 2015 he was the Head of the Department of general surgery and endoscopy of the digestive system at the Italian Auxological Institute. This professional experience was followed by work experience, from 2016 to 2018, as the Head of the General and Bariatric Surgery Unit at the Istituti Clinici Zucchi Clinical Institutes in Monza, where he coordinated the Interdisciplinary Center for Bariatrics and Obesity (C.I.B.O), of which he is currently the Head.

Since 2002, Doctor Formiga has been a freelancer at the Casa di Cura La Madonnina Clinic, combining with this activity also the long-term cooperation with the Casa di Cura Columbus Clinic, the Casa di Cura Villa Arbe Clinic in Milan, the Casa di Cura Montanari Clinic in Morciano di Romagna and the Osepdale Nigrisoli Hospital in Bologna.

In the practice of Dr. Formiga, there is the largest number of endoscopic bariatric surgeries performed in Italy (Apollo Overstitch, POSE, Endobarrier therapy, BIB, Spatz, Allurion Elipse), as well as a large number of extensive bariatric surgeries:

  • Stomach banding,
  • Sleeve gastrectomy,
  • Gastric bypass,
  • Mini-gastric bypass,
  • Repeat surgeries.

In addition, his practice includes numerous minimally invasive thoracoabdominal surgery interventions:

  • Extensive colon resections in neoplasms,
  • Stomach resection,
  • Cholecystectomy,
  • Appendectomy,
  • Laparoscopic hernioplasty,
  • Thoracoscopy for lung neoplasms,
  • Effusions,
  • Biopsy,
  • Pleural talcage.

Dr. Formiga has participated in numerous national and international congresses and is a member of major prestigious scientific societies, namely:

  • Member of the International Advisory Board of the Apollo Overstitch System,
  • European consultant and tutor for USGI POSE,
  • Consultant, tutor, member of the Allurion Academy Program,
  • Member of SICOB, Italian Society of Obesity Surgery, for bariatric endoscopy.
