Alberto Morganti

Biography

Professor Alberto Morganti has been working for 50 years in the field of cardiovascular diseases and, in particular, the diagnosis and treatment of arterial hypertension, and since 2014 he has been a freelancer at the Casa di Cura La Madonnina.

Professor Morganti graduated with honors from the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery of the University of Milan in 1970. His thesis was published and received the Premio Montecatini prize for the academic year 1969-70.

In the following years Professor Morganti specialized in cardiology at the University of Milan (1972), in nephrology at the University of Parma (1975) and in internal medicine at the University of Milan (1982).

From 1976 to 1978, he received the Fogarty International Fellowship Award and worked as a leading physician at the Center for Cardiovascular Hypertension at Cornell University Hospital in New York, where he was involved in clinical and research activities in the field of humoral regulation of blood circulation.

On his return to Italy, he was a researcher at the Center for Clinical Physiology and Hypertension of the Hospital Ospedale Policlinico and the University of Milan for ten years from 1978 to 1988. In May 1988, he was promoted to Associate Professor and in 2001 to Ordinary Professor of Internal Medicine at the same University of Milan, where he taught until 2014. At this and other universities, he taught courses in schools of specialization in cardiology, nephrology and internal medicine.

From 1972 to 1988, he served as a Level I Supervisor at the Institute of General Clinical Medicine and Therapeutic Treatment within the Clinical Research Institute Ca’ Granda Ospedale Maggiore Policlinico in Milan. Continuing at the same institution, he took on the role of assistant to the Co-head of the inpatient and outpatient departments in 1988. Later, he assumed leadership as the Head of the internal medicine department, also functioning as interim chief physician from 1998 to 2001.

From the end of 2001 to March 2007, Professor Morganti was the Head of the Cardiovascular Internal Medicine Department and Director of the Arterial Hypertension Center at the Hospital Ospedale S. Paolo in Milan, and from 2007 to 2014 he was the Head of the Department of Internal Medicine and Center for Arterial Hypertension at the Hospital Ospedale San Giuseppe in Milan. In the same place, he also served as Director of the Medical Department from 2009 to 2014.

Professor Morganti is the author of more than 300 publications, including original works, in peer-reviewed international journals, chapters in treatises and popular articles on hypertension and cardionephrology.

Since 1994, he has held the position of Executive Editor of the Journal of Hypertension (official journal of the European Society of Hypertension and the International Society of Hypertension). He is also a member of the Italian Society of Arterial Hypertension, where he served on its Board of Directors from 1995 to 1999 and from 2007 to 2009, and he was Chairman from 2009 to 2011. Professor Morganti is also a member of the European Society of Hypertension (ESH) and of the International Society of Hypertension (ISH), where he was the Treasurer from 2000 to 2008.
