Biography

Dr. Matteo Tacelli is a gastroenterologist at the Biliopancreatic Endoscopy and Endoscopic Ultrasound Unit of IRCCS Ospedale San Raffaele.

He graduated in Medicine and Surgery from the University of Milan in 2014, specialized in Gastroenterology at the University of Palermo in 2019, and obtained a PhD in Molecular Medicine from Università Vita-Salute San Raffaele in 2023.

He carries out advanced clinical and interventional activities, with particular expertise in diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) procedures and ERCP for the management of complex biliary and pancreatic diseases. His clinical focus includes solid and cystic pancreatic neoplasms, acute and chronic pancreatitis, and benign and malignant biliary strictures. He routinely performs EUS-FNA/FNB, transluminal drainage, ERCP, and combined approaches for biliopancreatic complications.

Dr. Tacelli is responsible for clinical and translational research projects in collaboration with the Pancreas Translational and Clinical Research Center, focusing on artificial intelligence applied to the diagnosis and management of pancreatobiliary diseases. His main research interests include early diagnosis of pancreatic cancer, risk stratification of cystic neoplasms (IPMN, pNEN), and the evaluation of endoscopic ultrasound accuracy.

Since 2021, he has been a Contract Professor and Tutor for the Degree Course in Medicine and the Specialization School in Gastroenterology at Università Vita-Salute San Raffaele. He is a member of national and international scientific committees and guideline panels and co-founder of Next Generation EUS (NGEUS), a project dedicated to the advanced training of young endoscopists.

He actively participates in multidisciplinary teams for the management of oncologic and chronic inflammatory patients. He also collaborates with European research centers, including the Institute of Image-Guided Surgery in Strasbourg (IHU), developing innovative projects integrating AI with endoscopic imaging.

Dr. Tacelli is the author of over 70 publications in peer-reviewed international journals (H-index: 18) and has served as Principal Investigator and Co-investigator in national and international multicenter studies. He is a reviewer for high-impact journals such as GastroenterologyEndoscopy, and Pancreatology, and co-author of international position papers and guidelines on the use of endoscopic ultrasound.
