Massimo Origoni

Biography

Professor Massimo Origoni is Associate Professor of Gynecology and Obstetrics at the Vita Salute San Raffaele University. He is a full-time Professor of the Master's Degree in Medicine and Surgery, the International Doctoral Program in English and the Didactic Coordinator of the Specialized School of Gynecology and Obstetrics of the University of Vita-Salute San Raffaele.

He is also the Coordinator of the Educational and Training Clinical Activities of the Mother and Child Department of the IRCCS Ospedale San Raffaele.

In the clinical field, he is responsible for the Gynecological Oncological Diagnostic Center for Operative Gynecology and Obstetrics of the IRCCS Ospedale San Raffaele under the supervision of Professor Massimo Candiani.

After graduating from the University of Milan in 1987 with a degree in Medicine and Surgery, he specialized in gynecology and obstetrics at the same institute in 1990. During his studies, he had extensive experience working abroad, in particular, in the USA and England.

With regard to the clinical activities of preventive gynecological oncology, Professor Origoni is an expert in the prevention and early diagnosis of female genital neoplasms and the conservative surgical treatment of these conditions. With regard to the pathologies of the lower female genital tract, he is mainly concerned with the pathology of the vulva, vagina and cervix, with a recognized high competence in the diagnostic methods of vulvoscopy and colposcopy. He has many years of experience in both benign and oncological gynecological surgery. In particular, he is an expert in the field of vaginal and reconstructive surgery with extensive personal experience of operations. At the same time, he acquired special competence in surgery of the lower genital tract using CO2 lasers. He has recently developed an innovative experience in reconstructive surgery for spina bifida in utero (fetal surgery) using the minihysterectomy technique pioneered in Europe in 2018 at the Ospedale San Raffaele.

His research activity is mainly focused on the mechanisms of oncological transformation of the mucous membrane of the genitals in connection with infection with the human papillomavirus (HPV).

To date, he is the author of 130 articles published in national and international scientific journals. His Hirsch Index is 22.
