Biography

Dr. Stelio Alvino is an anesthesiologist and intensive care physician at the Anesthesia and Semi-intensive Care Unit at Villa Erbosa in Bologna. He also works at Villa Chiara.

After earning his degree in Medicine and Surgery in 1992 from the University of Bologna, he specialized in Anesthesia and Intensive Care (with a focus on Intensive Therapy) in 1997 at the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia.

Dr. Alvino is a freelance specialist in Anesthesia and Intensive Care. Throughout his career, he served as a medical director in the Emilia-Romagna Regional Health Service from 1997 to 2001 and held the same position in the Tuscany Regional Health Service (AUSL Toscana Sud-Est, Montepulciano Hospital) as a local coordinator for organ and tissue donation from 2001 to 2023.

He has also served as a senior medical officer in the Selected Reserve of the Italian Army and in the Military Corps of the Italian Red Cross, working from 2003 to 2014 in ten overseas operational theaters (Iraq, Afghanistan, Lebanon, Kosovo, United Arab Emirates) with the title of Medical Officer specialized in anesthesia and resuscitation, focusing on the treatment and evacuation of casualties in hostile environments.

His practice includes general and regional anesthesia for orthopedic, trauma, and spinal surgeries, as well as expertise in selective regional anesthetic blocks. He also performs the placement of central venous accesses, including for dialysis, and has experience in anesthesia for general abdominal, breast, gynecological, otorhinolaryngological, and vascular surgeries, as well as in conscious sedation.

Dr. Alvino actively participates in national and international conferences in his field.
