Biography

Dr. Stefania Stefini is an Otorhinolaryngologist in the Otorhinolaryngology Unit at the Istituto Clinico Città di Brescia.

She graduated in Medicine and Surgery from the University of Pavia in 1973. In 1977, she specialized in Otorhinolaryngology and Cervicofacial Pathology at the same university. She later obtained the national qualification as an ENT Assistant in 1980 and as an ENT Department Head in 1983. In 2005, she earned a Diploma in Managerial Training for Healthcare from IREF.

Her clinical, surgical, outpatient, and consulting activities focus on otorhinolaryngology.

Throughout her professional career, she has held the following roles:

  • From June 1974 to April 1978: Assistant (initially temporary, later permanent) at the ENT Clinic of Policlinico San Matteo Hospital in Pavia.
  • From April 1978 to December 1979: Assistant (initially temporary, later permanent) in the ENT department of Spedali Civili in Brescia.
  • From December 1979 to July 1988: Assistant (initially temporary, later permanent) in the ENT department at Umberto I Children's Hospital in Brescia.
  • From July 1988 to December 31, 2006: Permanent assistant in the ENT Clinic of Spedali Civili in Brescia.
  • From January 2007 to October 31, 2014: Head of the Pediatric ENT Department at the Spedali Civili di Brescia.  

She has enriched her expertise through international training:

  • In 1980, she attended a Pediatric Otorhinolaryngology course at the ENT Clinic of the University and San Joan de Dios Pediatric Hospital in Barcelona, Spain.
  • Subsequently, she attended Oto-surgery courses at Garcia Ybanez's clinic in Barcelona.
  • In the fall of 1989, she spent two months in France at the Pediatric ENT department of Robert Debré Hospital in Paris, under Prof. Narcy, focusing on congenital laryngeal disorders, with further shorter visits in the following years.
  • In Arles, France, and Brussels, Belgium, she attended theoretical and practical courses on endoscopic dissection of the paranasal sinuses.
  • She completed thyroid surgery training in Udine (Prof. Miani) and additional courses at the Milan Cancer Institute and the European Institute of Oncology.
  • She also trained in functional and aesthetic nasal surgery in Imola (Prof. Sulsenti) and periodically attended the ENT department at Maggiore Hospital in Bologna for the same focus.

Over the years, she has attended courses on salivary gland surgery, neoplastic pathology of the oral cavity, pharynx, larynx, and thyroid.

Dr. Stefini has extensive clinical and surgical expertise in head and neck conditions, with a significant operative case history (available for review by the healthcare administration). She has consistently acted as a clinical and surgical tutor for specialization students.

Her areas of medical and surgical expertise include ENT diseases and cervicofacial pathology, with a particular focus on malformative cervical surgery, thyroid surgery, and salivary gland surgery. She also specializes in nasal and endoscopic paranasal sinus surgery.

She is the author and co-author of scientific publications and has been a speaker at numerous conferences.

For approximately 10 years, she taught Hearing Impairment Clinic at the Catholic University of Brescia for training support teachers.

For about 15 years, she served as a lecturer in Pediatric Otorhinolaryngology at the University of Brescia's specialization school.
