Simona Pettinà

Dr. Simona Pettinà is a nurse and midwife, coordinator of the Pelvic Floor Rehabilitation clinic within the U.F. of Proctology and Pelvic Floor Pathology of the Villa Aprica Clinical Institute.

In 1997 she graduated in Nursing from the Borgomanero School (NO) and in 2004 she graduated in Obstetrics from the University of Insubria in Varese.

Between 2011 and 2017 she attended training courses on pelvic floor dysfunctions (urinary incontinence, fecal incontinence, constipation, incontinence in prostatectomy patients, prolapses, pelvic pain, just to name the most common areas).

Among her work experiences:

• from April 1998 to October 2000 she worked as a nurse at the Auxologico Institute in Piancavallo (VB);
• From October 2002 to March 2013 she worked at the “Filippo del Ponte” hospital (Varese) as a nurse in various areas (instrumentalist, outpatient clinics, Multidisciplinary Day Surgery department);
• From 2013 to 2014 she worked at the Circolo di Varese Hospital (ASST Settelaghi) as an instrumentalist and ward nurse;
• From October 2014 to January 2022, again at the Circolo di Varese Hospital (ASST Settelaghi) she dealt with pelvic floor rehabilitation, initially alongside the Proctology clinic and subsequently merged with the Neuromotor Rehabilitation Unit (since January 2016).

In the field of pelvic floor rehabilitation, between the end of 2011 and 2022, she also collaborated with various multi-specialist practices in the provinces of Novara, Varese and Milan. She has also dedicated herself to childbirth preparation courses for couples, with a focus on labor and delivery in order to best protect the pelvic floor.

Since February 2024, Dr. Pettinà has been working at the Istituto Clinico Villa Aprica as an expert therapist for pelvic floor dysfunctions.

Dr. Pettinà deals with the rehabilitation of male and female pelvic-perineal dysfunctions such as:

• urinary incontinence;
• fecal incontinence;
• sphincter deficits;
• constipation, prolapses;
• dyspareunia;
• pelvic pain;
• vulvodynia;
• vulvovestibulitis.

In the academic years 2006/2007 - 2010/2011 - 2011/2012, Dr. Pettinà held the position of contract professor in the degree course in Obstetrics at the University of Insubria in Varese.
