Biography

**Professor Sara Massironi** is an Associate Professor of Gastroenterology at Vita-Salute San Raffaele University in Milan, Head of the Gastroenterology Unit at Istituti Ospedalieri Bergamaschi, and Head of the Endoscopy Service at Policlinico San Pietro.  

In 1998, she graduated with honors in Medicine and Surgery from the University of Milan, where she also completed a specialization in Gastroenterology and Digestive Endoscopy in 2002, followed by a Ph.D. in Gastroenterology in 2007. In 2016, she obtained a second-level master’s degree in Diagnostic and Operative Endoscopic Ultrasound from Vita-Salute San Raffaele University.  

She further honed her expertise in abdominal and intestinal ultrasound, earning the National Diploma in Clinical Ultrasound from the Italian Society of Ultrasound in Medicine and Biology (SIUMB). She also obtained a certification from the Italian Society for Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition (SINPE) for managing patients on Artificial Nutrition.  

Throughout her career, Professor Massironi has gained extensive experience in gastroenterology across various hospitals in Lombardy. She has served as Head of the Gastro-Entero-Pancreatic Neuroendocrine Tumors Clinic at the Fondazione IRCCS Ca’ Granda Ospedale Maggiore Policlinico in Milan and as Head of the Digestive and Pancreatic Diseases Unit at Fondazione IRCCS San Gerardo dei Tintori in Monza.  

Her clinical and research focus includes gastro-entero-pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors, interventional ultrasound, endoscopic diagnostics, chronic inflammatory bowel diseases, autoimmune gastritis, and irritable bowel syndrome.  

Professor Massironi has held teaching roles in Gastroenterology at the University of Milan and the University of Milano-Bicocca. She currently serves as Associate Professor at Vita-Salute San Raffaele University in Milan.  

She is a member of several scientific societies, including SIGE (Italian Society of Gastroenterology and Digestive Endoscopy), AISP (Italian Association for the Study of the Pancreas), ENETS (European Neuroendocrine Tumor Society), and ITANET (Italian Association for Neuroendocrine Tumors).  

Professor Massironi has been a speaker at numerous conferences and is the author of over 100 publications in national and international scientific journals.
