Salvatore Smelzo

Dr. Salvatore Smelzo is a urologist at the Urology Unit of IRCCS Ospedale San Raffaele in Milan, led by Dr. Franco Gaboardi.

He graduated in Medicine and Surgery in 2009 from the University of Campania Luigi Vanvitelli in Naples and specialized in Urology in 2015 at Federico II University of Naples.

Dr. Smelzo completed part of his academic training in Paris, France, at Université Paris-Diderot (Université Paris VII). In 2009, he was awarded a scholarship for surgical training at Hôpital Saint-Louis AP-HP in Paris.

From March 2014 to March 2015, he pursued a fellowship in minimally invasive laparoscopic and robotic surgery at Clinique Saint-Augustin in Bordeaux, France. There, he worked with Prof. Dr. Thierry Piéchaud, a leading figure in IRCAD urologic surgery training and Chairman of the European Society of Urologic Technology (ESUT), and Dr. Richard Gaston, a pioneer in laparoscopic surgery and the first to perform laparoscopic radical prostatectomy.

He also serves as a robotic surgery tutor at IRCAD in Strasbourg, France, specializing in robotic surgical training.

Dr. Smelzo offers urological and andrological consultations, including ultrasound and diagnostic procedures such as cystoscopies and prostate biopsies. He also performs major oncological surgeries using minimally invasive laparoscopic and robotic techniques.
