Biography

Prof. Roberto De Franchis is a gastroenterologist on contract at the Istituto di Cura Città di Pavia and a practicing gastroenterologist and endoscopist at Casa di Cura La Madonnina.

He graduated with honors in Medicine and Surgery from the University of Milan in 1969 and later specialized in Gastroenterology and Digestive Endoscopy at the University of Bologna in 1978. From 1978 to 1979, he served as a Visiting Associate Professor of Medicine (Gastroenterology) at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine of the City University of New York.

Throughout his career, from 1971 to 1978, he was a Tenured University Assistant at the Institute of Medical Semiotics at the Ospedale Maggiore Policlinico. He subsequently worked at Mount Sinai Hospital (New York) from 1978 to 1979 and at the Institute of Internal Medicine at Ospedale Policlinico from 1990 to 2000. He became the director of the Gastroenterology Unit 3 at Ospedale Maggiore Policlinico from 2000 to 2010, and from 2010 to 2015, he served as the director of the Gastroenterology Unit at Luigi Sacco University Hospital.

Prof. De Franchis has conducted extensive research, focusing primarily on portal hypertension, chronic inflammatory bowel diseases, and small intestine endoscopy. He has authored a total of 314 scientific papers published in peer-reviewed international journals, with approximately 23,162 total citations. His H-index is 68.
