Biography

Dr. Nicolangela Belgiorno is the Head of the Intensive Care Unit at the Istituto San Rocco in Brescia.

She completed her training at the University of Milan in the early 1980s, earning a degree in Medicine and Surgery and later specializing in Anesthesia, Resuscitation, and Pain Therapy in 1985. She also completed internships in Bronchoscopy (in Parma), Hemodynamic Monitoring (in Teramo), and Radiology (in Milan).

Dr. Belgiorno focuses primarily on Intensive Care and Operating Room procedures, with particular expertise in Swan-Ganz catheterization, hemodynamic monitoring, percutaneous tracheostomy, pericardiocentesis, and bronchoscopy (for difficult intubation and bronchoalveolar lavage). She also manages plexus, general, vascular surgery anesthesia, spinal anesthesia, loco-regional anesthesia, and epidural anesthesia (single shot or with an epidural catheter).

She is skilled in continuous veno-venous hemofiltration (CVVH), coupled plasma filtration with adsorption of inflammation mediators (CPFA), and provides support in interventional hemodynamics, such as transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) and dynamic ablation. Additionally, she treats cardio-respiratory diseases through both invasive and non-invasive ventilation (NIV).

Dr. Belgiorno actively follows initiatives organized by the Italian Society of Artificial Nutrition and Metabolism (SINPE). She has published a study on platelet aggregability during isoflurane narcosis and is the author of a poster for the Apice Congress in Trieste on SJ02 monitoring, as well as contributions to the international week of Anesthesia and Resuscitation and the ACTA Anaesthesiologica Italica on statistical correlations between isoflurane narcosis, neuroleptoanalgesia, and platelet aggregation.
