Biography

Professor Mario Zavanone is a consultant neurosurgeon at the Casa di Cura La Madonnina and a free consultant to the Foundation of the Ca'Granda Hospital Policlinico Maggiore Research Clinical Institute in Milan.

After receiving a Bachelor's Degree in Medicine and Surgery from the University of Milan in 1973, in 1982 he specialized in neurosurgery at the same university.

During his specialization, he also spent a year at Atkinson and Morley Hospital in London.

From 1974 to 1986, he was an assistant professor at the Neurosurgical Clinic of the University of Milan and an assistant.

Meanwhile, in 1985, he obtained the national right for primary neurosurgery, and from 1986 to 2017, he was an Assistant Professor of Neurosurgery at the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery of the University of Milan.

Between 1999 and 2014 Zavanone was a highly specialized medical director with organizational responsibility at the Foundation of the IRCCS Ca' Grande Ospedale Maggiore Policlinico in Milan, and from 2010 to 2017 he was Director of the Specialized School for Neurosurgery of the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery of the University of Milan.

The professor is currently a free consultant at the Foundation of the IRCCS Ca' Grande Ospedale Maggiore Policlinico in Milan and a consultant neurosurgeon at the Casa di Cura La Madonnina.

During his career, Zavanone has taught in advanced courses and specializations at the University of Milan, as well as lecturing in advanced courses for hospitals.

His clinical activities are focused on:

  • surgical treatment of all adult and child brain tumors,
  • pituitary adenoma,
  • neurinoma,
  • meningioma,
  • glial tumors,
  • intracranial vascular surgery,
  • treatment of aneurysms,
  • treatment of angiomas,
  • neurotraumatology,
  • treatment of hydrocephalus ,
  • degenerative spine surgery: disc prolapses, osteoarthritis, spinal canal stenosis of various levels,
  • surgery of spinal tumors,
  • surgery of spinal canal neoplasms: maningiomas, neurinomas, ependymomas.

The professor is also the author of numerous scientific publications and papers presented at national and international congresses.
