Biography
Dr. Mario Ferrari Vivaldi is the Head of the Cardiac Surgery Unit at the Istituto Clinico San Rocco in Brescia.
He earned his medical degree from the University of Genoa and completed his specialization in Cardio-Angio-Surgery at the Sapienza University of Rome. He furthered his training at the University of Zurich and the Cardiovascular Surgery Clinic in Aalst, where he focused on advanced cardiac surgery techniques.
Dr. Ferrari Vivaldi has performed over 10,000 cardiac surgical procedures across a broad range of cardiac pathologies, with particular expertise in coronary artery disease, myocardial infarction complications, valvular heart disease, and aortic aneurysms and dissections. He is renowned for his work in mitral valve repair using the double-orifice technique.
His career includes significant contributions to extreme myocardial revascularization and heart failure surgery, particularly in elderly patients with severe coronary artery disease, previous myocardial infarctions, and mitral insufficiency. He has also conducted cardiac surgeries using extracorporeal circulation, documenting myocardial metabolism and ischemia-reperfusion injury.
Dr. Ferrari Vivaldi’s scientific contributions have been published in prestigious international journals such as Annals of Thoracic Surgery, British Journal of Anaesthesia, European Heart Journal, and The Journal of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery.
He is a member of several professional organizations, including the Italian Society of Cardiac Surgery (SICH), the European Association for Cardio-Thoracic Surgery (EACTS), the Italian Association of Hospital Cardiologists (ANMCO), the Italian Society of Cardiology (SIC), the Accredited Italian Society of Hospital Cardiology (SICOA), and the Regional Association of Ambulatory Cardiologists (ARCA).
