Mario Carminati

Biography

Dr. Mario Carminati is the Head of the Pediatric Cardiology Unit at IRCCS Policlinico San Donato in Milan.

In 1976, he obtains Degree in Medicine and Surgery at the University of Pavia and subsequently obtained two specializations, in Diseases of the Cardiovascular System (1979) and in Pediatrics (1994).

Since January 2000 at Policlinico San Donato, where he directs the Center for Pediatric and Adult Congenital Heart Diseases, he is particularly involved in the non-surgical treatment of various congenital heart diseases in children and adults, such as:

  • closure of interatrial defects
  • interventricular defects
  • stent implantation for the treatment of aortic coarctation
  • pulmonary valve replacement.

Author and co-author of more than 250 articles, as well as speaker and moderator at the most important national and international congresses.

Doctor Carminati was an advisor to AEPC (Association for European Paediatric and Congenital Cardiology) from 1998 to 2001, and chairman of the Italian Society of Paediatric Cardiology from 1998 to 2001.

He is a member of:

  • SCAI (Society for Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions)
  • GISE (Italian Society for Interventional Cardiology)
  • ESC (European Society of Cardiology).

He is an advisor to the Association for Children with Heart Diseases in the World, a non-profit association involved in many programs and projects for the prevention and treatment of pediatric congenital heart disease in developing countries.
