Mario Bussi

Professor Mario Bussi is the Head of the Department of Otorhinolaryngology at the Ospedale San Raffaele Clinical Research Institute in Milan, as well as ordinary professor of otorhinolaryngology at the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery of Vita-Salute San Raffaele University. In addition, he cooperates with the Casa di Cura La Madonnina Clinic.

After graduating from the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery at the University of Turin, he specialized in otorhinolaryngology and cervicofacial diseases. Then he studied at the University named after Pierre and Marie Curie (Université Pierre et Marie Curie) in Paris, where he received a diploma in Maxillofacial Surgery and Facial Reconstructive Surgery.

He studied abroad several times, in particular in hospital and university centers in North America and France (such as the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York, Manhattan Eye, Ear and Throat Hospital in New York, Institut Gustave Roussy in Paris). He carried out his professional activities at the Ospedale San Giovanni-Molinette Hospital in Turin, and then, since 2002, at the Ospedale San Raffaele Clinical Research Institute in Milan. His research activities in the field of otorhinolaryngology are focused on the study of head and neck tumors, destructive and plastic-reconstructive surgery, as well as problems with the immune system (in tumor sites, in Waldeyer’s ring, in the upper respiratory tract).

During the years of his career at the Clinica ORL in Turin and Ospedale San Raffaele Clinical Research Institute, he performed 13,000 operations, of which 11,000 as the first surgeon.

He is the former Chairman of the University Association of Otorhinolaryngologists AUORL, former Chairman of the Italian Society of Otorhinolaryngology and Cervico-Facial Surgery S.I.O-EChCF, and Chairman of the National Congress of the SIO Society 2021.

Professor Bussi is the author of over 300 scientific publications in the most influential national and international scientific journals.
