Maria Cristina Cavallini
Biography
Dr. Maria Cristina Cavallini is a psychiatrist and Head of the Disease Unit for Eating Disorders at IRCCS Ospedale San Raffaele Turro.
She is a psychiatry and psychology tutor and a lecturer for the elective course on Eating Disorders at Vita-Salute San Raffaele University.
In 1991, she graduated in Medicine and Surgery from the University of Milan, where she later specialized in Psychiatry in 1995.
Professional Experience:
- 1995–2002: Assistant physician in the Anxiety Disorders Unit and outpatient clinics at Ospedale San Raffaele Turro.
- 2002–2018: Medical Director and Operational Area Coordinator in the Rehabilitation Inpatient Unit for Eating Disorders and Anxiety Disorders, including MAC (Complex Ambulatory Macro Activities) and dedicated outpatient clinics.
- 2018–2024: Medical Director and Operational Area Coordinator in the Rehabilitation Inpatient Unit for Mood Disorders, overseeing outpatient clinics for Gilles de la Tourette Syndrome, Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD), and Mood Disorders.
- Since 2025: Head of the Disease Unit for Eating Disorders at Ospedale San Raffaele Turro.
Dr. Cavallini has been involved in several national and international clinical research projects in psychiatry, focusing on Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD), tic disorders, anorexia, bulimia, and binge-eating disorder, with a particular interest in family studies and genetics, resulting in publications in international journals.
She is currently developing a polysomnographic study on mood disorders (bipolar disorder and recurrent major depression), research on the neurophysiology of mood disorders (EEG studies), and clinical trials on OCD and related disorders within the Mood Disorder Rehabilitation Unit at Ospedale San Raffaele Turro, in collaboration with the University of Parma.
She was also a member of the OCDF Genetics Collaborative (OC Foundation) for the study of Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder.
Dr. Cavallini has authored numerous scientific publications in national and international journals.
