Luigi Frigerio
Biography
Professor Luigi Frigerio is a Consulting Gynecologist in the Obstetrics and Gynecology Unit at Policlinico San Pietro.
He graduated in Medicine and Surgery in 1976 and specialized in Gynecology and Obstetrics (1980) and Urology (1983) at the University of Milan.
His career began in 1980 as an assistant and later as a senior physician at various university clinics in Milan, including the IRCCS Ospedale San Raffaele, where he served as head of the Surgical and Oncological Gynecology section.
From 2000 until March 2021, he was the Director of the Obstetrics and Gynecology Unit and the Maternal and Child Health Department at the Papa Giovanni XXIII Hospital in Bergamo. During his 21 years there, he managed the department, delivery rooms, operating rooms, and the Gynecologic Oncology section, overseeing more than 700 chemotherapy cycles annually. Under his leadership, over 4,000 surgeries were performed, and more than 4,000 births were assisted each year.
As the lead surgeon, he has performed over 10,000 pelvic surgeries in obstetric, gynecological, urological, and oncological fields.
In 2001, he founded the Midwifery degree program in Bergamo, in collaboration with the University of Milan Bicocca, where he still teaches.
He is the emeritus president of the Lombard Society of Obstetrics and Gynecology and the honorary president of the Italian Society of Gynecological Surgery. He is an active member of the Italian Society of Gynecological Oncology and the European Society of Gynaecological Oncology. He is also the emeritus director of the editorial series "Reason, Science, and Ethics" and serves as a scientific consultant for the Cantagalli publishing house in Siena.
Throughout his career, Professor Frigerio has been invited to 361 scientific conferences as President, Moderator, or Speaker. He oversaw the first Italian edition of Williams Obstetrics.
He is a peer reviewer for several international medical journals and the editor and author of numerous books on Obstetrics, Gynecology, and Urology, as well as medical-scientific manuals, book chapters, and more than 353 scientific publications both nationally and internationally.
